Summer 2024 - Holiday Activities and Food (HAF)

ElevationX have had a great summer working on three Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programmes across Wiltshire, Nuneaton and Derby. It has been four weeks of fun for young people on benefits related free school meals, giving them the chance to take part in sports activities, including BMX track racing, food education, craft activities and STEM challenges.

Nuneaton BMX Track

For 2 weeks, young people were coached by former BMX World Champion Kelvin Batey and current professional BMX rider George Hunt. They learnt how to ride on a BMX track and racing skills, from riding individually around the track to riding in a group, racing each other and working in a team in relay races.

Each day also offered a hot meal, snacks and drinks as well as other games away from the track.

It was also great to see the summer camp had a mixture of girls and boys enjoying the BMX activity and trying it out as a sport they can take up after the camp. From a relatively unconfident rider, the girls took on the challenge and by week 2 were flying around the track!

Wiltshire FUEL HAF Camp

Over a fantastic 4 weeks in Wiltshire ElevationX delivered camps in Calne, Devizes, Royal Wootton Bassett, Marlborough and Warminster. As well as a range of sports activities, ElevationX delivered STEM and craft projects.

This programme has been running for a number of years now and young people come back to it time after time and still get so much enjoyment. It brings a host of benefits to the communities or Wiltshire, giving young people a chance to explore new things, get a good meal each day, learn about nutrition, make new friends and explore the local leisure centres where a lot of camps take place.
