Inspiring Year 7 Through Engineering and Innovation with Toyota

On Monday and Tuesday this week, the ElevationX team were proud to deliver two full days of STEM workshops to all Year 7 students at Murray Park School - reaching an incredible 256 students in total.

With 123 boys and 133 girls (52% girls, 48% boys), it was fantastic to see such strong engagement from a balanced cohort of young people stepping into secondary school and beginning to explore future pathways.

This inspiring event was sponsored by Toyota as part of their ongoing partnership with Murray Park School - a collaboration focused on careers education and creating meaningful industry connections for students.

Bringing Engineering to Life

Throughout the two days, Jill, James and Riha delivered three interactive workshops designed to connect classroom learning with real-world engineering and innovation, with support from Mandy-Jayne Evans from Toyota who was able to further contextualise and inform the young people about engineering opportunities on both a local and worldwide scale.

Tower Tussle Students explored core engineering principles while learning about the exciting opportunities available locally at Toyota’s Burnaston plant, right on their doorstep.

Electric Cars We examined the differences between petrol, hybrid and electric vehicles, discussing how automotive technology is evolving and the role Toyota plays in manufacturing different vehicle types both in the UK and globally.

Robot Rescue Students discovered how Toyota uses robotics in advanced manufacturing, alongside exploring the innovative technological developments happening both here in the UK and in Japan.

Engagement, Curiosity and Confidence

The young people were outstanding throughout. Behaviour was exemplary, questions were thoughtful and insightful, and students showed real perseverance as they tackled each challenge.

Most importantly, they were curious. They listened carefully, worked collaboratively and demonstrated genuine interest in engineering, sustainability and future career pathways.
