We had a great day at St George's Catholic Primary Academy delivering an in-school workshop on rotation, learning about energy and electric cars.

  • deliverer demonstrating
  • electric cars with students
  • elevationx deliverer
  • deliverer helping student
  • students make cars
  • charging the cars
  • students watching the car
  • students reaction
  • students helping
  • student build car
  • lined up to race
  • car race

To start the students explored energy, how electricity is made and what uses it. They then started to make there electric cars, making sure the wheels were straight and the cogs lined up. They learnt how to charge the cars up and then see how far they could travel on that charge.

Exploring how engineers think, and the design process to assess how well the car is working, they then make adjustments to improve performance. The also assessed the relationship between charge and distance, so they could try to travel the furthest on the mat!

The students got thoroughly involved and they all managed to improve their cars from build to final race.

Big well done to the students at St Georges, Derby!
